Knights Edge Jousting Academy Breaks yet another “first time” Barrier!

BECOME ONE WITH THE LANCE

Our latest student lived his childhood dream to venture into the renaissance subculture at the Epona Faire & Fantasy Festival in Fort Collins, CO.  Kevin has yet to mount a horse, but his extreme skiing (X games medalist), cliff diving, & world-wide skateboard adventures have given Kevin the impetus to learn jousting by our own Patrick Lambke, “The Black Knight”

The Travel Channel is producing a 6-episode Kevin Connolly Adventure Series that follows up Kevin’s photography, ”  Exhibition” and his book, “Double Take”.  Ths episode blasts out of the list on Rex, KEJA’s warhorse fit with a special saddle made by Heath Howes (Saddle Tree), Chicago IL.   The first step was the saddle fit & function for Rex & Kevin.  Kevin walked, trotted and cantered with Jeremy Johnson & Taylor Swanson (EPONA) on the first day.

On the second day, Kevin “filled with nervous anticipation” as he was introduced to a world Champion Jouster, Patrick Lambke.  Kevin began his jousting lessons with a shield and lance.  The saddle and “MacGiver jury rigging” efforts successfully launched Kevin into the final day.  THE JOUST.

Patrick felt his safeguard ground position with Jeremy also had the best vantage point, therefore, Champion Jouster, Kryssi Jeaux Miller began the first passes with Kevin holding his shield, then his lance respectively.

All leading up to one of the veteran Jousters greatest challenges…

Teaching a man born without the ability to use stirrups to Joust

Patrick explains his “two-point” technique in the Ebook, “The Medieval Knights of North America” by Helen Daniel.  “I think we need to write another book after this experience.  Kevin is an awesome person with more guts than anyone I have ever met!”, adds Lambke.

Jeremy Johnson is suiting up in the Black Knight Armour for his first training in heavy armour Jousting.

The heavy armour was introduced in the Medieval Times and used in battle and tournament. Another type of jousting is also taught at Knights Edge Jousting Academy in Johnstown, CO named Light Armour using a shield and lance.

Medieval Equestrian games such as the “running of the rings” and “the quintaine” teach the knight accuracy and power respectively. Welcome to heavy armour jousting Jeremy!

The home base of KnightsEdge Jousting Academy is in Fort Collins, Colorado, a stone’s throw from the majestic Rocky Mountains. Students here learn horsemanship, medieval games and jousting skills from the well esteemed and experienced Black Knight himself. Our mission is to bring a lighter version of jousting to the Olympics, since it is a regal and age old sport that deserves to be part of our world’s celebration of talent.
