Knights Edge Jousting Academy Breaks yet another “first time” Barrier!

BECOME ONE WITH THE LANCE

Our latest student lived his childhood dream to venture into the renaissance subculture at the Epona Faire & Fantasy Festival in Fort Collins, CO.  Kevin has yet to mount a horse, but his extreme skiing (X games medalist), cliff diving, & world-wide skateboard adventures have given Kevin the impetus to learn jousting by our own Patrick Lambke, “The Black Knight”

The Travel Channel is producing a 6-episode Kevin Connolly Adventure Series that follows up Kevin’s photography, ”  Exhibition” and his book, “Double Take”.  Ths episode blasts out of the list on Rex, KEJA’s warhorse fit with a special saddle made by Heath Howes (Saddle Tree), Chicago IL.   The first step was the saddle fit & function for Rex & Kevin.  Kevin walked, trotted and cantered with Jeremy Johnson & Taylor Swanson (EPONA) on the first day.

On the second day, Kevin “filled with nervous anticipation” as he was introduced to a world Champion Jouster, Patrick Lambke.  Kevin began his jousting lessons with a shield and lance.  The saddle and “MacGiver jury rigging” efforts successfully launched Kevin into the final day.  THE JOUST.

Patrick felt his safeguard ground position with Jeremy also had the best vantage point, therefore, Champion Jouster, Kryssi Jeaux Miller began the first passes with Kevin holding his shield, then his lance respectively.

All leading up to one of the veteran Jousters greatest challenges…

Teaching a man born without the ability to use stirrups to Joust

Patrick explains his “two-point” technique in the Ebook, “The Medieval Knights of North America” by Helen Daniel.  “I think we need to write another book after this experience.  Kevin is an awesome person with more guts than anyone I have ever met!”, adds Lambke.

On Saturday September 8, 2012 a female jouster made history.  Kryssi is the first female jouster to place first in the Light Armour Jousting Competition in Estes Park Highland Games.

Light Armour jousting is the first jousting style of the medieval times.  It predates the full armour featured on “The Knights of Mayhem” and “Full Metal Jousting” tv shows recently aired on National Geographic and the History Channel respectively.  It requires three important skills:  horsemanship, accuracy with a lance and presenting a shield for target.

Two teams competed for the title of best in Medieval Games, Light Armour and Heavy Armour.

In the first round Kryssi won 9 to 8 vs Allison Mazurkiewicz.  Allison is also a member of Knights Edge Jousting Academy founded by Patrick Lambke, “The Black Knight”.

The second round Kryssi lost 8 to 10 vs Rob Combe.  Rob Combe is a veteran Canadian Jouster with Knights of Valour founded by Shane Adams.

Kryssi was the highest point non-winner from the second round, therefore, she was given the chance to joust in the third round. She won 7 to 2 vs Zak Lovening (Knights of Valour) to challenge Rob Combe to a grudge match for first place.

The tension in the stadium turned into a foot stomping celebration as Krissi won in a close 8 to 7 match vs Rob Combe.

Saturday First Round Scores:  Shane (11) vs Rich Laubhan (6); Tyler Kekolay (6) vs Jeremy Johnson (4); Rob Combe (8) vs Ken Burton (5); Kryssi (9) vs Allison (8) and Zak Lovering (4) vs Lauren Sturges (2).

Saturday Second Round Scores:  Shane (9) vs Tyler (3); Rob Combe (10) vs Kryssi (8); Zak (8) vs Allison (4)

Saturday Third Round Scores:  Rob Combe (9) vs Shane Adams (6); Kryssi (7) vs Zak (2)

Saturday Fourth Round Scores:  Shane (8) wins third place vs Zak (6) wins fourth place.  Kryssi (8) for first place vs Rob (7) for second place.

This is the history of full-contact jousting in North America.  We desperately need your support to fund the KEJA team to cover costs of the horses, equipment and the upcoming Colorado Tournament.  Thank you

We may have lost this battle, but we are still standing our ground regarding the continuous slander/libel. The petition letter has now changed to ask the person who is slandering to stop contacting the KEJA sponsors and trying to ruin the generous sponsorship!

Jeremy Johnson is suiting up in the Black Knight Armour for his first training in heavy armour Jousting.

The heavy armour was introduced in the Medieval Times and used in battle and tournament. Another type of jousting is also taught at Knights Edge Jousting Academy in Johnstown, CO named Light Armour using a shield and lance.

Medieval Equestrian games such as the “running of the rings” and “the quintaine” teach the knight accuracy and power respectively. Welcome to heavy armour jousting Jeremy!
